Nowadays, we high students often complain that there is so much homework that we don’t even have time for our social life. We even cannot finish our homework on time. But if one thinks further about this problem, he may wonder if “too much homework” is actually the cause of this issue. The answer is probably ‘No.’ Then what is the root of all this? It is poor time management. On April 22, Mr. Steven Bradley gave us a speech about how to manage our time. In the beginning of the speech, he gave us two riddles: What flies but has got no wings? And this thing devours all, birds, beasts, trees, flowers, gnaws iron, bites steel, grinds hard stone to meal, slay kings, ruin towns, and beats high mountains down. The answer to these two riddles is “Time” Time files and it beats down the mountains and kills the kings.
Time can be the most important thing in our life. But these days there seems to be an epidemic——Procrastination. Procrastination is the practice of carrying out less urgent tasks in preference to more urgent ones or doing more pleasurable things in place of less pleasurable ones, and thus postponing impending tasks to a later time, and many a time to the ‘last minute’ before a deadline. Mr. Bradley said everyone liked to do fun or easy things, but one should think about the priority judging by importance, and then start with the more important ones to avoid wasting time. He also said many people today likely conduct multi-tasks, but we high school students should learn firstly to concentrate on one thing, as that would be more effective.
Then Mr. Bradley let us do a little quiz. The little and simple questions can show if we can manage our time well. The score blow 10 points means one can do pretty well, but most of our score were between 10 to 20. One student in my class even got 23. This result showed that we were not familiar with time management. Therefore we should do more do improve on it.
At last, Mr. Bradley assigned us an interesting task to write down that we would do in the next two days and check which one was what we should do and which one was what we liked to do. He suggested if we do this task every day, it can help us to get into a good habit of managing our time well.
