History merges into all we have. For each individual, not only should we know the grand history, but also learn to integrate history into our life. Therefore each individual is a historian of himself or herself.
Discover the History around You, a school-based curriculum of High School Attached to Shandong Normal University (AHS), made its attempt to open a lesson outside the school with more than 50 students led by Hou Xinlei and Wang Ya’nan into Ji’nan Museum.
Ji’nan Museum showed their great support to AHS students and teachers, specially appointing two instructors to guide the whole process. Led by instructors, AHS teachers and students paid a visit to those exhibits in the museum. The Splendid History of an Ancient City-An Exhibit of Ji’nan Cultural Relics is a large-scale exhibit made by Ji’nan Museum, where precious cultural relics are presented, well displaying the profound cultural foundation as well as the history of Ji’nan and helping us better understand the ancient city. Students showed their special interest in Ji’nan’s history and conducted active communication with the museum guides using the history knowledge they had learned. They made detailed records, actively presented their views and strictly abided by the museum regulations, thus acquiring much knowledge about their hometown’s history and at the same time well displaying AHS students’ outstanding qualities.
Discover the History around You is an AHS curriculum with distinctive features presented by AHS History Teaching and Research Department, on the basis of which six sessions of history writing contest have been organized and yielded fruitful results. This visit functions as a successful attempt to carry out a curriculum using out-of-school resources. In the future AHS History Teaching and Research Department, centering on the educational objectives of “AHS characteristics” and “history academics accomplishment” , will carry out more effective explorations.
