To strengthen the patriotic education among students, arouse their historical memories and evoke their determination and confidence in striving for achieving the great renaissance of China, a“National Memorial Day” mourning was held in High School Attached to Shandong Normal University (AHS) on December 13, 2016.
The memorial started with the flag-raising ceremony, following which all teachers and students observed a moment of silence as a form of cherishing the memory of those victims in the war. Then the student sponsor read out the proposal, calling upon all teachers and students to take history as a mirror, never forget national humiliation, work with stamina and diligence and forge ahead.
The National Memorial Day has been set up as a national commemorative activity in memory of the national disaster. On December 13, 1937, Japanese invaders conducted the 40-day massacre in Nanjing, killing 300,000 Chinese civilians and causing indelible sufferings and pains on Chinese people. In view of enhancing the modern Chinese’s memory of the nation’s history of suffering from the war as well as indicating its unswerving stand in strongly opposing the aggression, defending human’s dignity and maintaining the world peace, the Chinese government made the decision to designate December 13 as the National Memorial Day of the Nanjing Massacre each year with 2014 being the starting year.
The mourning is organized for the purpose of evoking students’ patriotic enthusiasm, nurturing their spirit of loving motherland, doing pragmatic work and striving for better accomplishments, and strengthening their patriotism.
